I can read with my eyes shut! (62/365)

  • 1 in 10 children are at risk for undiagnosed eye/vision problems!
  • Only 13% of mother's with children under 2 have taken their child to a vision well visit.
  • Premature babies have a higher risk of having vision problems, especially those born before 31 weeks or weighing less than 2.75lbs at birth.
  • Vision disorders are the fourth most common disability in the United States and the most prevalent handicapping condition during childhood.
Today Parker went to the optometrist for his first eye exam. The exam was completely free since it is funded through the InfantSEE program. You aren't even required to have health insurance. It was a very non-invasive exam that took a total of 10 minutes. She tested to see how well Parker followed a small object, how his pupils responded to light and looked for signs of amblyopia (lazy eye) or strabismus(misalignment of eyes.) Since Parker was born at 35 weeks his risk for having vision problems is a little higher so, it was even more important for us to have this exam performed. Parker actually had a lot of fun(we have a wonderful optometrist) and his eyes look normal and healthy!
