Sewing, sewing and more sewing!

I've actually taken a little break from selling my items and as you can see it has been a little bit since I have been able to post. It can get a little stressful sewing for customers and I always need a good vacation from selling to  sew things for myself, family or close friends. Always projects I can never get done when I'm selling my wares.

Anyhow, this is Eliana modeling a couple of the new dresses I made for her. Can you believe how big she is getting? She turned 16 months this past week and has changed so much!

If you are interested, similar dresses and outfits will be available for sale in my ETSY shop later this week.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Documenting the Details

Day 1-My workspace

Photobucket

My sewing has taken up a portion of the kitchen/dining area. My workspace started in our bedroom, after Parker was born we made a few changes and put the sewing area in his room. That didn't work out too well, so it we moved it out to the main room. We don't use the table for eating since you can only sit on one side of the table as there is no room to pull out the other chairs.

The table, shown in the background, is the best part of my workspace. It is very heavy and sturdy. The table I was using for sewing on originally, was wobbly and that does not work with sewing/embroidering. When I would serge, the table would bounce all over the place and cause the threads to "jump" off their designated paths. Unfortunately, this table only fits in this spot in our condo.

I have a love/hate relationship with this table. When we bought the table they had already put it together. That was great because I wasn't looking forward to assembling it. We were loading up the chairs when the seat of one of the chairs came loose and smashed my foot. It was very very painful, a trip to the ER to make sure nothing in my foot was broken and a few weeks later I lost my toenail. My husband noticed that when they had put the chair together they skipped putting in some of the screws to expedite the process.

Two months to go and a birthday sneak peek

Parker is 10 months! Crazy right?!? Just two more months until his first birthday. Boy am I excited. Will I go overboard? Absolutely! I will have a 10 month update post in the next day or so. In between orders I have started to work on Parker's outfit for his first birthday.

I have never posted anything from my wedding on my blog, but I made a lot of the decorations, invitations and I also made the wedding capes.

I really wanted Parker to wear a cape for his birthday party since his theme is "Royalty." A few size adjustments and here is his cape. He's not a huge fan right now, but I think as he gets older he will still be able to have fun with it. So, here is a sneak peek of the cape.

Baby Football Tutorial

I had some extra fabric after making an outfit and I didn't want to throw it away but I wasn't sure what to do with it. After a few moments, I thought it would be great to make a football that matched the outfit and it turned out pretty cute.

Here is the tutorial on how I made it:

I first measured out how big I wanted to make the football(you can always make this larger or smaller.) I found this was a good size for a baby, my little guy was able to hold onto this easily.

Photobucket

I then drew arcs connecting the lines. I did this freehand, and I definitely wasn't even, but I fixed it later.

Photobucket

After cutting out my pattern I folded it in fours, along the lines. I then cut along the pattern so all the arcs matched perfectly.

Photobucket

Using the pattern, I cut 4 pieces of my choice fabric.

Photobucket

I did my embroidery next, this is an optional step.

Photobucket

Next, sew the top portion along one side and the bottom portion along one side. I used a serger, but a sewing machine for this step works too.

Photobucket

I then, sewed the top portion to the bottom portion. Make sure that you leave a small opening along one of the four sewn sides so you can turn it inside out.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I added stuffing, and put in the bell. I use cat toys that have a bell inside. I find that if I put in a bell alone the stuffing muffles the bell sound a little bit. When I use a cat toy the bell has the plastic casing to "jingle" against, so it is a more pronounced bell sound. Plus, the cat toy bell is usually too big for a baby to accidentally choke on should a seam of the football open somehow.

Photobucket

Next, you will stitch the opening closed. I used a whip stitch, whatever you decide it doesn't have to be perfect since you will be sewing the laces over that area.

Photobucket

Using embroidery floss, add the laces over the opening you just closed.

And you are done! Enjoy...

Baby leggings Tutorial

What baby needs pants when you have baby leggings!!!!!

Baby leggings are huge for babies right now and if you're anything like me and don't want to spend $12.00 for them. Here is a simple tutorial to make them. It's quick and is easy in terms of sewing skill level.

I have searched and tried a lot of different tutorials but I have to say my favorite tutorial is from Little Birdie Secrets.

I like that you don't have any seam lines when you are finished.

Photobucket

I did make a few changes to that tutorial but it's only because I don't hand sew...ever! I'm really am horrible at it plus a machine is so much faster.

Baby Leggings

I bought these pair of knee high socks at the dollar store.

I cut about 12" of length or you can use a regular babyleg as your measuring tool (You will pretty much just be cutting off the foot of the sock at the ankle.)

Make sure you leave a little extra length for the seam.

*** For a No Sew version, you can let the cut edge roll and you would be finished at this point. ***

Next, turn the legging inside out and make a 1/4" seam and and sew. You can use a straight stitch or zig-zag stitch. I used a zig-zag stitch.

Make sure you don't accidentally catch the other side since you are sewing a small opening. I keep my finger in between. Also, don't stretch/pull while sewing or you will make too big of an opening.

Repeat the process on the other legging, turn right side out and.....that's it!!

My new sewing studio....err bedroom

Well, it's official nesting has kicked in. Since I'm no longer working due to having some health issues I've had to find something to do with my time. I have been sewing since I was about 12 and started designing clothing when my daughter was about two. I use to sell at a local boutique in Scottsdale until the lady closed her doors. Lately I have only been sewing things for friends and relatives but I decided that since I will be staying home with our little one when he's born I should put my designs to use again.

The tough part is, our office became our nursery about a month ago. I had to move all my stuff out of and I have had my machines, supplies, and scrapbooking stuff strewn everywhere. The mess has been eating at me for weeks. This week, I finally organized it all. I know I'm suppose to be resting, but when you are pregnant and the nesting bug hits full force there is nothing stopping you. We are just lucky to have an over sized bedroom or there was no way I could have fit all this. I did have to give up part of my closet for my scrapbooking stuff, but I love how much more organized it looks.

I opened up and etsy page and the link is on the left of my blog. Not a lot is posted right now, but keep visiting.
